Box, mobile home or building: what an extra room really costs

Several options can add a room to rent: a mobile home, a permanent building or a modular hotel room. Purchase price alone is not enough to compare them.

Request quotes with the same scope: the unit, equipment, transport, installation, site preparation, any utility connections, permissions and commissioning. Then add operating costs: cleaning, maintenance, power, water, insurance and distribution.

Without site-specific quotes, a general price range can hide the expenses that matter most.

The mobile home

Review its capacity, the equipment your guests actually need and the conditions for installing it on your land. Transport, placement, maintenance and any pitch fees belong in the budget. Applicable permissions must be checked before purchasing.

The permanent building

Foundations, construction, utilities and permissions need site-specific costing. This option commits the land for the long term; its suitability depends on your project and local demand.

The Hotel Inbox unit

Hotel Inbox focuses a 13 m² space on a room for two adults: a double bed, a private shower room and temperature control. Installation on support blocks and the ability to move the unit allow redeployment to be considered, subject to the new site's feasibility.

Hotel Inbox Connected uses the site's utilities and allows longer stays, with no autonomy limit. Hotel Inbox Off-Grid works without utility connections for 48 hours, with stays of two nights maximum between service visits. Autonomy does not remove the need to check permissions.

Include reversibility in the decision

Ask what happens if the activity changes: relocation, removal, reuse and associated costs. Compare total cost and site suitability, not just the initial purchase.
